‘Into the Chainscape’ is a riff on this year’s Light Festival theme, using a mundane and often overlooked material to create a visual and experiential surprise. The cube is made up of simple suspended ball chains representing malleable lines and planes, defining volume and space. The public becomes an active partner by entering into the volume, momentarily manipulating the platonic shape, through trial and tribulation, to reach the inner room of delight. The nature of dreams is a juxtaposition of memory and experience, the familiar and the peculiar, creating a sort of alternate reality. Through the interplay of material, pattern, form, and light, Chainscape provides a fluid environment to be explored and discovered, and gives people the ability to see things in a different light, as if in a dream.
