Celebrate light, art, and our beautiful city by participating in Portland Winter Light Festival activities this February 2022!
Earlier this year, we were thrilled to provide Portlanders with a safe, socially distanced way to come out and celebrate art and community together while safely managing COVID risks during the winter months. You all taught us so many lessons about how to co-create an incredible experience that helps everyone make special memories during the coldest time of the year.
Once again, the Portland Winter Light Festival will expand art installations into communities, neighborhoods, and storefronts all across our city. Part of our mission is to invigorate Portland in the winter, and what better way to do that than to invite artists, businesses, creators and designers to show off their best glow?
In 2022, installations can take the form of:
-
Light based art installations or sculpture in windows
-
Colorful and creative outdoor lighting
-
Art installations in your own yard or neighborhood location
-
Video projections
-
Creative multimedia installations viewable from the street
-
And more!
Information Session and Q&A for Artists and Creatives on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30pm.
2022 Theme: "Within the Ecosystem"
Within the ecosystem.
Sometimes we’re so close to something we can’t see it.
It’s so large we can’t comprehend or fully understand it.
So we look for secrets. We try to find the answers to puzzles that don’t exist.
Ask the stars, the heavens, seeking answers in magic or from words of the long dead.
Searching your whole life just to miss what’s right in front of your nose and under your feet.
There is magic and beauty is all around you.
You are in it, on it, swim in it and breathe it.
You just have to step back, and open your eyes.
It’s everywhere, life is everywhere.
This year we ask you to embrace life and this ecosystem.
All of it. From the smallest microbe, to the largest animal.
From the water we drink to the light of the sun that warms our planet.
We ask you to see your place among everything.
Because
We are lucky
To be here now.
Together.
On this wonderful living world.
